Wonderful Parliament

The parliament summoned to meet on 1 October 1386 to discuss the threat of invasion by the French. An extraordinary subsidy of four fifteenths was being requested by the king, Richard II. Instead of debate on that the king found himself under attack because of favourites much disliked by the Commons. Ill-feeling predominated and, in a moment of bizarre folly, Richard threatened to appeal to the king of France for assistance. However, parliament prevailed and secured the impeachment of Suffolk, the treasurer. Relations between king and parliament continued to be bad.
